Nominations Open for the 2009 Florida Tourism Hall of Fame and the Tourism Honor Roll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 9, 2009) – VISIT FLORIDA announces a call for nominations for the 2009 Florida Tourism Hall of Fame and the Tourism Honor Roll. Annually, leaders in Florida tourism are chosen by a selection committee on behalf of the Florida Commission on Tourism to be inducted into the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame and the Tourism Honor Roll. This honor recognizes contemporary and historic figures whose vision, creativity and drive has had a positive and significant impact on the development of Florida as a desirable visitor destination. Individuals living or deceased are chosen and announced during VISIT FLORIDA’s annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Florida Tourism Hall of Fame Since 2001, one individual is chosen annually to be inducted into the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame. The honoree is announced during the Governor's Conference on Tourism in August. The award is presented on behalf of the Florida Commission on Tourism. Florida Tourism Honor Roll Created in 2007, the Honor Roll serves to acknowledge those historical visionaries whose achievements and extraordinary careers significantly impacted the growth of Florida tourism. The Honor Roll will be displayed alongside the Florida Tourism Hall of Fame. The awards selection committee is made up of nine representatives from the Florida Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Florida Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, Florida Attractions Association; a previous winner; the past chairman of VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors; a representative from hospitality academic area; and one at-large representative.
