FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 27, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 27, 2009) – The entire tourism industry, representing nearly 1 million employees, stands united today in recognizing Governor Crist for restoring $9.9 million in funding to VISIT FLORIDA.

“This restored funding will ensure the continuation of successful advertising and marketing programs that bring visitors, and their money, to our state. Every $1 that VISIT FLORIDA spends in tourism marketing returns $3 in tourism-related taxes to state coffers. In 2007 alone, tourism returned $3.9 billion to Florida in tax revenue and generated $65.5 billion in direct economic impact.

“VISIT FLORIDA has always proven to be a good steward of public funds, more than doubling every dollar the state invests with private sector contributions.

“Thank you to Governor Crist and the Legislature for investing in tourism marketing to help revive our economy and generate revenue for the state.”
